Pierra Menta 2014

The 29th edition of the Pierra Menta went down last week and Micke and I were there to take part in the action. For the uninitiated it is one of Le Grande Courses of ski mountaineering, steeped in history,  featuring 10 000 metres of elevation gain over four days of competition in the stunning Beaufortain massif of the Savoie region of France. It attracts a stacked field of competitors from all over the world from the elite to the less so.

Rather than get in to a nitty gritty, day by day coverage, which would require multiple posts, I'll keep it short by saying that the event left me with more stoke for competitive ski mountaineering events than ever before but also with a huge degree of respect for just how fast the guys and girls at the front of the pack are. Below are a few videos showing the terrain and conditions we encountered each day. And for more details I recommend checking out the blogs of Brian Harder and Nate Brown.
